2 The struggles in life are ongoing, some people find that it is easier to escape run; one small act can cause a person to become suicidal. Many factors contribute to suicide that may have lead to the increase death rate. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in people aged 15-24, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Americans live a busy life that we could be responsible for not scoping the signs of those who are suicidal. With this fast paced life we find ourselves missing the most obvious signs of suicide. We often don’t like to think or talk about suicide since it is such a harsh topic. Most ignore this topic because they feel uncomfortable which is one of the causes why society is missing the signs.†¦show more content†¦The most important sign is depression, this can mean the person is spending too much time sleeping or in closed doors. Keeping an eye on those who have gone through stressful life events is a way of helping and preventing. It may be difficult to scope the signs when one is busy or when the person is hiding it. In some cases some people may not always show signs of suicide. They may feel ashamed to admit there are suicidal or scared of what could happen. Another approach is observing non –verbal communication. The person may seem down and has troubling thoughts. The person is afraid of speaking or thinking â€Å" they wont understand†. The first age group that is affect is teenagers, which may be harder to scope the signs since they go through a series of hormones and behavioral changes. Suicide Prevention Resource Center has a chart from 2015 reporting 23.4% of high school females considered suicidal as 12.2 % of males. 11.6% of females attempted as for 5.5 % of males. Females are at higher risk of suicide behavior in high school. This time it is very hard to scope the signs since teen girls are very hormonal. As for the parents may just blame it on the hormones and not see the actual signs of suicide. It is crazy to think that a teenager can have so much information on how to commit suicide or has thoughts; blame it on media. The movie The Matrix, written and directed by The Wachowski brothers, can be seen as the ultimate Marxist metaphor. Its basic premise is that the world as we know it is fake; it is a â€Å"computer simulated dreamworld†, mimicking our own world of the late 90s, called the Matrix. In charge of the Matrix itself is a seemingly malevolent sentient machine species. Even worse, the sole purpose of this simulation is to control humanity, which has been enslaved inside the simulation for several hundreds of years. It was a matter of survival for the Machines, as the humans in the days before the Matrix attempted to destroy the Machines by blocking their power source – the sun. This time I have decided to take another big step in my life; I decided to continue my education and go for my master’s degree. Time to make another plan for success. Many people have asked me why I finally decided to go to graduate school after all these years of working as a registered nurse. My answer would always be, â€Å"It’s time. † Before I reached the decision to go back to school, I have put a lot of thought into it because I know it will not be an easy road to travel but my decision felt right. Getting my master’s degree will help me define a career path that will allow me to branch out to another field of nursing that has interested me. It will open up new opportunities to use my acquired nursing skills and knowledge. Acquiring a graduate degree will allow me to advance professionally and will help me become more marketable in the competitive healthcare job market. To succeed in something, I must set goals both short-term and long-term. These goals serve as a guide so that I may keep focus on what I want to accomplish at the end. I am a realistic person so I want to have goals that are reasonable. My long-term goal is to find a job that would allow me to spend more time with my family and at the same time be professionally and financially satisfying. For my short-term goals, I know that I will have to succeed in several of them before I reach the fulfillment of my long-term goal. At this time my short-term goals are to learn how to be a student again, to learn how to avigate through my online school and to be able learn how to fulfill my assignments and readings required to pass my courses in school. There are challenges that present themselves to me at this time. (Nellen, 2000), â€Å"To be able to have control over your time, don’t let it manage you! † (para. 2). This is probably the most difficult challenge I have. Coming home from a full 12-hour shift, I am just too tired to do any schoolwork. Attending on an online program helps because I can do things at my own pace. To manage my time, I try to keep a schedule and follow it as strictly as I can. It is my way of developing a new habit so that school will not be so much of a stressor. I rely a on my calendar to guide me on what to do daily. I find this very helpful, especially in making sure I do not miss any deadlines, meetings or other things that I need to do. Another challenge is the financial aspect of going back to school. In the kind of economy we are in, I sometimes need to work some overtime to make ends meet but being in school takes my time away from that. To tackle this situation, my husband and I decided to change our working situation a bit. He started a part- time job to augment our budgetary needs while I am in school. I also decided to take out a student loan to take off the burden of paying for school at this time. This may sound confusing to some people but just getting back to the student mindset is a challenge too. It has been quite a long time since I had study and do assignments and projects. I have to remind myself that I am back in school and that there are things that I need to do . To overcome this, I have set aside two hours a day for me to be a student. At this time I do my readings and other schoolwork. I am hoping that by doing this I will be able to include it in my daily routine so that I can budget my time better. When a person has goals, it is important to set milestones that would mark the achievement of these goals. These help in encouraging one to persevere toward the fulfillment of his ultimate goal. My first milestone would be when I successfully pass my first course of my master’s program. This is important because this tells me that I can do it. This conveys to me that the adjustments that I have made to meet my challenges work. A second milestone would be when the time comes that I can navigate through the different applications in the online learning system with ease and comfort. The final milestone would be passing that final course to complete my master’s program. This would validate that all my hard work was worth it. For a good plan to work, it is important that everybody involved in it fully understand what is going on. Effective communication plays a fundamental and essential part in this. Every day and every minute we communicate whether it may be verbally or non-verbally. Martha Graham, an American modern dancer and choreographer, once said, â€Å"The body says what the words cannot† (Lewis, 2012, para. 2). As a person, I am very expressive. Aside from verbally communicating my thoughts, I am very transparent in my body language too. I have no problem saying what I have in my mind but there are times when I cannot fully state what I have to say in the fear that I may offend somebody or say the wrong thing. This fear sometimes hinders me from effectively saying what needs to be said. I have found myself being overly cautious in the words that I use and sometimes that comes across as me being unsure of what to say. In contrast to this, there are times when I find myself talking too fast and not allowing time to let the person I am talking to respond. Another weakness that I have is that I fail to read the non-verbal cues. I tend to get so engrossed in the conversation that I look past the body language. Looking back at my communication strengths and weaknesses, I have come up with some strategies that I can use to improve my communication skills. I have to learn to listen attentively. There is a big difference between simply hearing what the other person is saying and listening to what he is trying to say. Hearing is simply receiving sound from somewhere whereas listening is being able to absorb and understand what is being said. By using this method, I can take a step back and process the conversation better so I can respond better. Another strategy that I can use is to hear the words behind the actions. I have to use the non-verbal cues sent my way to understand better what the message is. This way, it is easier to respond appropriately. If I understand better, I can avoid that fear of being offensive and I can be more eloquent in my choice of words to use. The last and final strategy that I have come up with is the use of feedback. Feedback allows for effective communication to exist. Here the flow of ideas takes place. With feedback, it is easy to clarify certain points of the conversation that were unclear. Feedback allows for open communication and active learning. Writing this paper has made me think and summarize what has been happening the last couple of months. It has been a long journey for me to reach this point of my career. I know I will be facing challenges in the next couple of years but having goals and strategies to help me go through them will help me persevere. Knowing my strengths and weaknesses and having a plan to improve them will guide me to succeed. During my undergraduate years, I took the first step in developing a career. Subject-subject relationship is a relationship wherein the self treats the other as a subject which means that the self hears what the other has to say and understands the other. This kind of relationship is often seen on family and friends. If a relationship lasts for a long time, that relationship could be a subject-subject relationship. Subject-object relationship is a relationship wherein the self sees the other as an object. The self disregards what the other feels. The self only want the other to hear what they are saying. The self wears a fake mask on for the other to see only the fake mask therefore the other is being deceived by the self with a fake mask on. This relationship isn’t really such a nice relationship. Martin Buber calls the subject-subject relationship as â€Å"I-Thou† or the Relationship of Dialogue and the subject-object relationship as â€Å"I-It† or the Relation of seeming. You will know if the relationship is an I-It relationship if the self is more focused on one’s self rather than the other. The self is less concerned about the other. For example, when a hostage taker hostages a child, the hostage taker doesn’t really care about the child instead the hostage taker is more focused on what will benefit him/her. If the self wants the other to believe what he/she says and does not care for the other, this relationship may also be defined as an I-It relationship. When a corrupt politician speaks his/her propaganda, the corrupt politician doesn’t really care about the people but only wants them to believe him/her for them to vote for him/her. When the self labels the other is also considered as an I-It relationship. In the I-Thou relationship, the self and the other regards each other’s feelings and thoughts. The self is unified with the other in the I-Thou relationship. If there is love in a relationship then it is an I-Thou relationship because the I and thou cares and respects each other. The self and the other do not perceive each other as objects, but perceive each other’s unity of being. After knowing the subject-subject relationship and the subject-object relationship I have reflected upon myself that I had relationships with others that I treated some as a subject and some as an object without knowing that I was already treating them as an object. I am feeling somewhat guilty that I treated them as an object. Although I think people can’t absolutely treat people as a subject all the time because I guess there are instances where we must and have no other way but to treat some as an object at some times. People can’t avoid treating some as an object yet people can’t avoid being treated as an object. I know I was also treated as an object by some yet I treated some as an object also so I guess it’s fair enough for me. All people still has different views on man. Our views are of our own choices.

The theme of memory (Madella 2) as elaborated by Saito (353) is used to portray collective identity. Historical circumstances are reconstructed through collective memories which assist in defining people’s collective identity. Although collective memory can be painful, it is useful in the sense that it assists us in conceptualizing history (Saito 353). Wood (191) notes that although people may fail to notice the importance of women like Elle, her memories help reveal the truth about what befell Japan and her as well (Walden 5). The author gives a view of the processes people undergo after an incident as they try to forget the past. It also shows the importance of letting go of the past even under circumstances whereby it is very hard to forget past memories. The major weakness of the article is that the author repeatedly makes the traumatic events more dreadful as it is painted all over the article. The major strength of the article is that the writer attributes the bombing as the reason why the Second World War ended (Woods 187; Hogan 1). Done improperly, for example when CSR is seen by the company as a marketing problem, the latest market fad, or a PR fix PR is tantamount to greenwashing the sins of a company. True CSR guides the company away from making the sins or mitigating them in the first place. CSR should be an integrated, sustainable, and systematic approach to business. It belongs as a core component to the strategies and structure of companies. CSR is about being good corporate citizens to all stakeholders stockholders, employees, customers, community, supply chain, and the environment. It is the old social contract idea, the right to exist as a company. It is about the sustainability of the business through integrity and smart business decisions that recognize and integrate the impact on and influence of all stakeholders. I like CSR Internationals reworking of the CSR acronym as Corporate Sustainability Responsibility as it speaks to the integrational aspects of CSR. They are calling it CSR 2.0. Companies who do not understand that CSR is about business sustainability and integrity as much as it is about social programs, often make the mistake of making CSR a marketing or PR program/problem. By doing so they essentially green-wash their company. In my opinion, PR should lightly handle CSR initiatives until the CSR program has momentum and there is something to actually celebrate and brag about. Celebrating decency and expected behavior is not good PR on CSR. It is artificial and could cause more harm than good. PR should let the public know that there is a CSR program, that there will be a report, and what some of the programs are that are under development, or highlight ongoing/historical CSR efforts. Report on the activities but not out of proportion to the other activities of the company. As a career long change agent, I know that steering change in organizations takes time, embedding, and momentum. New CSR programs take time to mature and years to yield significant, sustainable results though quite often there are substantial shifts that occur in the first year. What you measure gets paid attention to. So often the first steps of CSR is measurement taking an inventory on where the company stands with respect their impact on society, economy, and the environment. This is often accomplished through a GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) checklist report or a GHG (Green House Gas) report. This is merely a starting point. The true test of sustainability and a company committed to CSR is history of improvement and performance. Unfortunately these initial documents tend to be fodder for PR and Marketing departments, which in their need for short term results and fantastic figures tend to overstate or understate the findings as they try to make the company look good. In CSR, however, the proof is in the year-to-year changes, the response from stakeholders, the integrity of the companies actions and words. CSR is about smart business practices. It is about constant improvement and integrity. PR is about reporting on the events as they occur or showcasing a history of events and trending. The danger is when the showcasing precedes the actual work. In other words, if company A pay for environmental programs, employee training and efficient waste management programs and company B does not, company B retains its resources, including money, for other business pursuits.
